A sad day for the Bloom family....

Our brave leader has been injured. He will be back as strong as ever....but it will take awhile.

A First

I'll admit that I have a cold. My head is stuffed up and I have a cough, a good productive cough. But at the same time, my hygiene is just fine, thank you. I know how to cough into my sleeve, I deposit my used tissues in the trash, and I wash my hands often, singing Yankee Doodle all the way through...twice.

So when I got to school today and had a big note on my door that said "You must see the nurse before seeing students", I wondered what was up. Turns out I was too germy for school and I got sent home. It seems that my cold (and I called my doctor just to be sure) is their H1N1.

I know this is one mean virus and I don't mess around when it comes to illness and other safety issues. But this is overkill, folks! I'm expected to walk around at school with my can of Lysol. I think I'm in as much danger from chemical poisoning and depletion of the ozone from all the whatever-they-ares in that aerosol can than I am from anything else.

Long time, no blog

Not much happening around here....just some Tetris, some Sally's Spa, some Facebook, some reading, some knitting while the healing happens.
The dressing they sent me home in!
Lovely boot and rollabout

Thoughts of a surgery wimp

* The pain wasn't so bad but the boredom might kill me.
* I'm puzzled why the boot is called "one size fits all". After the first three patients to use one, it should have been clear that that ain't so.
* Is it the surgery or the laying about that is making me feel peckish?
* I am so so lucky to have Stew for my nurse!
* If this is all I can think of to write, maybe I shouldn't write.

A few last photos before surgery

The garden is looking good....I have had pizza and fun times with the family.....The triplets have some new summer clothes....Nevy is wearing grandma-knits and has been cuddled and loved....I guess the only left to do is to have my Achilles tendon repaired. I'm as ready as I'm going to be so let's get on with it.

While I lie sick, the garden grows...

That sounds as if I am feeling poetic. Not so. Just impatient with bronchitis and ready to be up and moving again!

School's out!

Guess how I plan to spend my summer...
....plus sewing and seeing our other grandchild (the camera shy Mitchell) and working on school stuff and maybe cooking and I do have to have surgery and cleaning out closets and....I love this early summer feeling!

I hallucinate: Part 2

Actually I did not hallucinate during part two of my root canal. I had done my homework this time around and the medication was just right. When he was finished the endodontist did say that this had been such a difficult tooth that he wasn't sure that this would save it. I decided to think positive thoughts and hope for the best...and so far, all is well.

I hallucinate

No fooling.

I had my first root canal and it was less than fun. As soon as I was given laughing gas, I started to hallucinate. It was mostly auditory....lots of strange unpleasant garbled sounds including a bit of opera and Motown mixed together. When I opened my eyes, the endodontist looked wicked and, even scarier, he had his eyes tightly shut. Worried people kept running in and out. I was truly terrified and tried to raise my arm to shove the evil closed-eyed doctor off but lucky for him, I had lost all control of my powerful fighting arms. They just flopped around in a way that must have been disconcerting but was hardly threatening.

It took a long long time to come around. Really long. They almost charged rent for the dental cubicle. Then the evil doctor came in, looking not evil at all and with both eyes wide open. He gave me the news....we weren't done! It had been over two hours and I was told that I was the proud owner of very unusual teeth....extra long and skinny roots (what irony! My only long skinny parts!)and not only that! Two more roots than most people! Bonus for me!

So I get to go back. This just stinks!

Murder

Would anyone mind if I'd kill a certain Joey? The bush outside the bedroom is just almost ready for its once a year five day extravaganza of sweet smelling blooms. And guess who decided to lop that bush all to hell without checking, asking or using any green thumbish common sense. I am furious. Wouldn't this be justifiable homicide?

Fortunately...

...I have insurance with dental coverage.

Unfortunately, it doesn't begin to cover the cost of a root canal.

Fortunately, for something like this, we have savings.

Unfortunately, this is not a fun way to spend money.

Fortunately, I am mature about these things.

Unfortunately, the last statement was a lie.

(I'm supposed to end this with a "Fortunately... fortunately... and fortunately..." but I'm still reeling from the abscessed tooth experience and my first time with nitrous oxide. By the way, it only made me laugh a little. But I did tell the dentist and the hygienist that I loved them.)

Not much fun

I have an abscessed tooth. I was fine at 11:36 AM on Thursday. At 11:37, I felt a funny bump in my mouth and this adventure began.

The adventure won't end for a couple more days. That's because my dentist does not work on Fridays. I thought maybe that meant I could get in on Saturday which would be quite handy but no such luck. Every week a three day weekend for that fella. That might make him smile but it puts a frown on my face.

It's not dreadful, I'm not in horrendous pain but I don't feel very good. I'm ready to move on to the next step in resolving this. Yesterday would have been nice.

I guess it was a trick question

The table does look like Grandma and Grandpa's...but it's not. It could be in a dining room or the room above the garage...but it's not. Sam hasn't been home for a couple of months, that is true. But being home wouldn't have helped him.

Maybe a second photo would have helped. The Nestle Inn. 2nd floor sitting area. That's my place to do logic puzzles but now that I think about it, I'm the only person who would recognize it. A dumb contest but it did show that none of us are particularly observant. We have never had a chair like that one at our house and Grandma B. made the needlepoint covers on the chairs in the dining room. So much for this family of wannabe spies!
